Louise Mudge is a specialist dietitian at Adelaide Gastrointestinal Specialists. She is an Accredited Practising Dietitian, completing a Masters in Nutrition & Dietetics at Flinders University South Australia in 1998. 

Louise has more than 20 years clinical experience both in private practice and her previous role as Senior Dietitian, Digestive Diseases, Royal Adelaide Hospital. This involved coordinating nutrition and dietetic services to the Gastroenterology, Professorial Oesophago-Gastric Surgery, Pancreatic & Hepatobiliary Surgery & Colorectal Surgery teams. 

During 2010-2015 she was seconded to the University of Adelaide Discipline of Surgery as the Clinical Trial Coordinator for a national multicentre trial evaluating immunutrition use in patients undergoing surgery for oesophageal cancer. She presented the results of this trial at the ESPEN Congress in Copenhagen in 2016 and published these in the British Journal of Surgery. 

She specialises in the dietary management of patients with reflux, achalasia and motility disorders, gastric and oesophageal cancer. She has expertise in preparing patients for upper gastrointestinal surgery. Louise also has extensive experience managing patients with malnutrition, IBS and functional dyspepsia and implementation of a Low FODMAP diet, lactose intolerance, Crohn’s & Ulcerative Colitis, Coeliac Disease, pancreatic cancer, pancreatitis, bowel obstruction, NAFLD & liver disease. 

Louise has a passionate interest in weight management and reducing the risk of chronic disease including patients with diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, hypertension, PCOS and osteoarthritis. She is results driven and committed to evidence based practice. Patients are given individually tailored advice to fit in with their goals. She has extensive experience in the implementation of very low calorie diets (VLCDs) and is currently involved in a research trial evaluating their use in patients before anti-reflux surgery. She also has considerable experience in the management of patients before and after gastric reduction surgery for weight loss.
