A/Prof Sarah Thompson, MD, PhD, FRACS is an internationally recognised Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon based in Adelaide, South Australia. She holds a Balanced Academic position at Flinders University and runs a part-time private practice (within Adelaide Gastrointestinal Specialists; AGIS) which focuses on the surgical management of reflux, hiatus hernia, motility disorders, and upper gastrointestinal cancer.
A/Prof Thompson completed her surgical training in Calgary, Canada, and subsequently completed fellowship training in upper gastrointestinal surgery in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A., and in Adelaide. She completed a PhD in 2011, and is regularly invited to speak at scientific meetings, including the annual International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE).
A/Prof Thompson is a Board Member of the Australian & Aotearoa New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association (AANZGOSA), sits on the Academic Surgery Committee for RACS, and maintains an active membership with the Society of American Gastric and Esophageal Surgeons (SAGES) and the ISDE. A/Prof Thompson is the Specialist Editor for Upper GI Surgery for the ANZ Journal of Surgery, and has a strong academic track record with over 130 publications.
A/Prof Thompson believes in a holistic and collaborative approach to the surgical management of reflux, regularly enlisting support and guidance from her Dietician, Gastroenterologists, General Practitioners, and colleague Upper GI Surgeons.
