Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect to pay for my first visit?

We are not a bulk-billing practice, so there may be out-of-pocket costs for consultations and procedures. We collect the full fee on the day of your visit and submit your claims to Medicare Online, ensuring your rebate is transferred to your account within 1-2 business days. For details on costs, feel free to ask our friendly staff.
Do I need a referral to see a gastroenterologist?
Yes, a referral from your GP or specialist is required to see a gastroenterologist.
Do I need a referral to see a dietitian?
No referral is needed to see a dietitian. However, we accept Enhanced Primary Care Plans (EPC). You can also use your private health insurance (depending on your level of cover) or Medicare card at our HICAPs machine to receive your rebate directly into your account within 1-2 business days.
What documents do I need to bring for my consult?
Please bring any relevant blood or scan results. You can also email them to us at info@adelaidegispecialists.com.au and our staff will attach them to your file for your convenience.
How can I book an appointment with a gastroenterologist?

What is a colonoscopy?
A colonoscopy is a procedure used to examine the bowel and allows for various treatments, such as biopsies and polyp removal, through the colonoscope.
What is an endoscopy/gastroscopy?
Endoscopy uses a flexible tube to examine the upper gastrointestinal tract, including the oesophagus, stomach, and proximal duodenum. This procedure is typically performed if your doctor suspects conditions such as oesophageal inflammation, ulcers, or abnormalities in the oesophagus, stomach, or duodenum.
Do you see patients without private health insurance?
Yes, we do. There may be out-of-pocket costs for procedures, as well as fees for the doctor, hospital, anaesthetist, and pathology, depending on the procedure and hospital. These costs will be explained during your consultation. Feel free to call us at 08 8267 4092 for a rough estimate.
Do you see patients with private health insurance but no Medicare?
Yes, we do. You will need to pay the full fee for the procedure and manually claim from your private health insurer. The rebate amount will depend on your level of cover.
English is not my first language. Do you provide interpreters?
We welcome patients from all backgrounds and can arrange a free interpreter, depending on the language and availability. Our reception staff can communicate in Mandarin, Indonesian, Malay, and Vietnamese.
I’ve misplaced the prescription from my specialist. What should I do?
Please call us, and we will arrange a new prescription. There is a $20 fee, and your prescription will be available for collection within 48 hours. If it has been more than 3 months since your last consultation, you will need a review appointment before we can issue a replacement prescription.
